Kakadu, Kimberley, Red Centre and more. For 35 years we have been taking people on treks unlike anything else on the market.

  • Forget trails. Our treks are off-trail, deep into the wilderness.
  • Vehicle back up? No way! We go where vehicles never will.
  • Too hard? Not if you are reasonably fit. Our clients have ranged in age from 6 to 86. With today's gear and our climate, you can trek for a week or more while carrying a pack lighter than most bushwalkers would believe.
Stop and think. Would you like a holiday where you:
  • swim in clear tropical pools, pure enough to drink.
  • enjoy pristine camp sites you share with no one else.
  • relax by a campfire while your guide prepares you a three course meal. (Most of our treks take place in areas where campfires are more environmentally friendly than fossil fuel stoves.)
  • walk for days or weeks without seeing anyone but those on your trek.
  • visit amazing Aboriginal art sites which will remain forever unknown to non-walkers.

Other operators run the same trip again and again. We don't. We offer a variety so that you can see the best that our regions have to offer in each of their many seasons. This allows you to choose an appropriate level of difficulty. It allows the land to recover between visits so that it will remain as pristine in 50 years as it is today.

Bushwalking, trekking, hiking, backpacking, tramping -- whatever you call our holidays, they are different. We begin where the four wheel drive tours stop.

On every trip, our experienced guides lead you off-trail into wonderful places where you enjoy Aboriginal rock-art, beautiful gorges, birdwatching, photography, wildflowers, waterfalls and superb campsites you share with no one but your walking companions. They are yours and yours alone because you walk to get there.

On all our trips, you carry a pack containing your food and equipment. You need reasonable fitness but our trips are not endurance tests. They get you away from the stress city life so you can relax and unwind in a way which would not be possible surrounded by the trappings of civilisation.

We take you to places where there are no phones, no cars, no people, no hassle! places where you can swim in clear, tropical pools, camp under the most amazing star show on earth, enjoy a three-course meal by the campfire and relax the evening away with a group of like-minded people.

Trips range from short walks of three or four days to six week expeditions. Some trips are relatively easy, others are relatively difficult. All offer plenty of time to relax, have a break and stop for a swim.

An absolutely unique outfit catering to the truly adventurous that takes you on foot through the wildest and remotest parts of Australia. Tropical waterholes, rarely visited art sites, sublime isolated campsites, fascinating fauna, flora and geology - you get it all, as I recently found on an extended bushwalk and canoe trip in the Kimberley. Willis Walkabouts has an outstanding trip list and there are years of experience and local knowledge underpinning these trips. Highly recommended.

Willis also offers a range of off the beaten track overseas trips which I am actively considering for 2018.

Do it again
I've done two trips with Willis's. One with Russell in Central Patagonia which was fantastic & a two week Kakadu trip, also brilliant. I need to make time for another trip soon.

Great feeling
These walks are the foundation for monumental experiences, sights and sounds and feelings that can only serve to make for a joyous and open mind. I feel privileged to have led so many walks, seen so much country and had access to an energy that resonates so strongly, hidden away in the stone country. Don't think, do. These walks will change your perspective on everything. Australia is a remarkable and challenging environment, rewarding those who immerse themselves within it.
