Penguin Island Ferry & Cruises
Penguin Island is closed from June 7 for the penguin nesting season. Our 60 minute Seal Island Wildlife Cruise departs daily during this time. Ferries and cruises resume from September 15 when Penguin Island reopens to visitors.Penguin Island is a beautiful nature reserve just 45 minutes south of Perth and a 5 minute ...ferry ride across the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. It's famous for having WA's largest colony of little penguins which visitors can meet at the Discovery Centre. Rangers host three daily penguin feedings at 10.30am, 12.30pm & 2.30pm. Apart from the penguins, the marine park abounds with wildlife including wild dolphins, sea lions, stingrays, pelicans & ospreys. Visitors can enjoy white sandy beaches and secluded bays, perfect for swimming and sunbathing. There are colourful limestone reefs and sea grass meadows that present some of the best snorkelling opportunities in Perth. A network of timber board walks and nature trails allow visitors to explore and take in the beautiful coastal scenery. Visitors are often amazed at how close they get to the sea birds which nest within metres of the board walk and have no fear of people. There is also an ideal picnic area overlooking a shallow sheltered beach ideal for children. Ferries depart daily fom mid September to early June, on the hour from 9am- 3pm and return at 10 minutes past the hour. The last return ferry from Penguin island is 4pm sharp. Glass bottom boat and adventure cruises to see wild dolphins, sea lions and the ruggedly spectacular islands also operate daily. Tickets for the ferry and glass bottom boat can be purchased on the day from our base in Shoalwater. Bookings are essential for the Dolphins, Penguins & Sea Lions Adventure Cruise. view more info
