Mammoth Cave is the most easily accessible of all the show caves in the region, with an elevated boardwalk to the first chamber. It is a self-guided cave, where you explore on your own while listening to an informative 'audio tour' through the MP3 player and headset provided. You are free to wander at your own pace alo...ng the boardwalks and platforms, through the majestic chambers of the cave. Mammoth Cave is a natural time capsule; having preserved the ancient fossil remains of long-extinct giant animals. See some sculptures of these 'Australian Megafauna' onsite. A visit to this cave finishes with a winding walk through the beautiful marri forest, with whistling birds and stunning flora displays. This magical cave is the site of one of Australia's most important palaeontological digs in the early 1900's. The cave still contains the fossil jawbone of one of these giant marsupial species - embedded within the limestone wall - 50,000 years after the animal roamed the forests above. Situated around the Mammoth Cave region there are many tall Karri trees and bush understory. Around the parking areas look for Purple – Crowned Lorrikeet, Sacred Kingfisher, Scarlet Robin and many other species!
