THINGS TO SEE IN Cocos Keeling Islands
HERE ARE A FEW OF OUR FAVOURITE LOCAL ATTRACTIONS
Kitesurfing
With warm, shallow lagoons and steady trade winds, the Cocos Islands offer some of the world’s best kitesurfing. Launch from Kite Beach on West Island and glide across turquoise, glassy waters perfect for all skill levels. The prime season runs from May to October, with consistent 15–25 knot winds and year-round tropical temperatures. Local operators provide lessons, gear hire and full-service packages, making it easy to enjoy long, unforgettable days on the water.
Fishing at the Cocos Keeling Islands
The Cocos Keeling Islands are a fishing paradise, with clear turquoise waters and plenty of fish to catch from the shore, the lagoon, or offshore. Fishing is great all year, with calmer seas from November to April and stronger trade winds from May to October. Most inshore areas are open to recreational fishing, but be sure to check local size and bag limits at the Visitor Centre. Local guides can help you find the best spots, and while some gear is available on the islands, it’s best to bring your own.
Snorkelling
The best way to explore the Cocos Keeling Islands is beneath the surface. The clear turquoise lagoons are teeming with colorful coral, molluscs, crustaceans, and turtles. You can spot vibrant fish and turtles just meters from shore, or join a local tour boat to explore further. Grab your snorkel gear or hire a set, and drift around the reef at your own pace.
