Description

Moontide is Broome. Broome is Moontide. One is not one without the other.

Our story is one that begins here in Rubibi (Broome), amongst the most ancient lands and sea. But ours is a new story, and we respect and honour the stories told by the peoples that have lived here for many thousands of years. We are always learning from them, and it makes our story a stronger one.

Moontide Distillery is a product of the Kimberley – the extraordinary history, the diversity, the wilderness, the milky turquoise waters and vivid red Pindan dirt. But more than mere landscape, this place has spirit. It’s a spirit we fell in love with, and it has given life to our philosophy of creative endeavour, a pursuit of learning, and striving for perfection. Moontide began with a dream, was given life by the spirit of Broome, and made a reality by the inspiration and passion of our hardworking team.

The Distillery & Cellar Door.

Our distillery and cellar door – the only one in Broome, and one of the most isolated in the world - opened on the first of July 2020. We are immensely proud of our Moontide gins and spirits. Open five days - 12 till 6pm - closed Tuesday and Wednesday only.

They are as unique as the Kimberley; as unique as the pure monsoonal rainwater and local botanicals that flavour every bottle; complex and distinct. So we feel we truly have captured, and created, the ‘spirit of Broome’.

An important part of the Moontide philosophy includes being gentle on the land, and our operations are powered by solar panels and storage batteries. We are proud to be part of the Broome community, and we work with and support the Nirrumbuk Aboriginal Corporation to help build capacity and employment within local communities.

We use pure Kimberley monsoonal rainwater in every bottle of Moontide Distillery gin or spirit. Infused with native botanicals and exotic spices, we craft our spirits to reflect the charm, exoticism and bold character of Broome. The purity of the monsoonal water creates a crisp, fresh spirit that excites the palette.

Native sourced ingredients
We loved this visit. We originally called in at 11.00 but of course they couldn't open then so we went off and had a look around Chinatown while waiting. We returned at 1.30pm and was welcomed into the distillery by a lovely young woman who invited us to have a free tasting of their gin. We wanted to learn more about the distillery so thought this would be a good idea. Our host was very knowledgeable in the making of Gin and she took us through the process which was all completed on site from beginning to end. They use a lot of native sourced ingredients for their gins and we were lead through the ingredients in each of their gins. We loved the free tasting and from here we purchased a sampling paddle of three drinks. Two of the drinks were gin and the last was a bitters. We both enjoyed all of them but when it came to purchasing we decided on a bottle of bitters which my husband who doesn't drink much really enjoyed.
